I thought about writing some lengthy bio about myself, but decided that it felt too awkward. It’s hard to describe your music, and I don’t think you are here to read about all of the twists and turns of my musical journey. Instead, I am going to keep things short here.
I was born in Memphis, TN and raised in the “Bootheel” of Southeast Missouri. A small town established on the bank of the Mississippi River called, Cape Girardeau. Ever heard of it? I have lived in Los Angeles, New York City, Woodstock, NY, and Nashville, TN, where I am currently based. Each of these places and the people along the way have contributed to who I am as a songwriter and musician. When asked to describe my music I find it hard to provide a distinct answer. I don’t know who to say I sound like, but I can tell you who I am influenced by. I used to say, “you know, it’s rock and roll”. After working with a publicist on my last record, I was informed that the term Rock and Roll doesn’t register as a description in the music business anymore. I don’t know about all that, but it did lead me to think that I could probably get a little more creative when describing my sound. My influences, the ones that come out most clearly in my music, are The Rolling Stones, Big Star, and Jimi Hendrix. I think I am going to call the music I am currently working on for 2019, Psych Pop/Jangle Rock.
The good news is that I am going to be releasing a song a month in 2019 staring in January. You don’t won’t need me to describe my music—you can listen and decided for yourself. I think you will say, this sounds like Foster McGinty.
All the best,
